There is one attribute that is rarely thought about or associated with warriors. It is an extremely powerful attribute and one that if you possess will carry you far in life. It is an attribute that has been given negative connotations over the years and thus has become little discussed. It is perhaps the single most important attribute to possess if you wish to live like a warrior and survive a deadly force encounter. That attribute is defiance.

Defiance is a powerful motivator that can cause you to push forward in the face of difficult circumstances. Defiance is not a negative or "bad" quality to possess, it is essential to living like a warrior. Defiance is what allows you to say to the world "No. I am not going to be a victim." Defiance. "Yes, I will stand up for justice, regardless of what you say." Defiance.

Defiance is what allows great inventors to achieve their dreams. "Electricity? That can't be done." The response of the defiant Nikola Tesla was "Yes it can." "Men can't go to outer space" sounded nice until it was achieved. Some men and women defiantly said "Yes it can and we're going to prove it." "Nobody needs a motor car. You'll never sell these in mass quantities." to which Henry Ford defiantly replied "We'll see."

Defiance for the warrior is what allows them to venture into the heart of violence even when they think they might die. Some, even when they KNOW they will die. How can they do that? Defiance. "You won't survive this mission." "Oh yeah? Watch me." Defiance is a critical attribute to have for anyone who wants to maximize their chances of surviving a violent encounter.

What this means for you is this: Program your mind by telling yourself "I can and will do what is necessary to survive." Do not listen to people who say "this is impossible" or "you can't do that"; be defiant. Yes, I can survive. Yes, I will survive. Yes, I am willing to do what is necessary to protect myself and my family. I will not cower or give in to society's victim mentality. I am not a victim, I am a survivor.

Start looking for examples of people who succeeded or survived impossible odds and ask yourself whether or not see defiance somewhere in the example. Make no mistake, defiance, when appropriately applied, is a very positive trait. It can allow you to survive a deadly attacker; to venture into the heart of darkness when others flee from it. Be defiant. When someone says you cannot survive, be defiant. Yes you can survive. Defiantly stand up for your right to protect yourself.

In Defiance,
